Konstantinos Mataras is pursuing a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and joined the group of Prof. Bazant in April 2025. He received his Master of Science/Diploma in Chemical Engineering from the University of Patras in 2024. His first research endeavors were in the field of atmospheric air quality, under the guidance of Prof. Spyros Pandis. He initially focused on new particle formation event detection and classification over Greece. For his master’s/Diploma thesis, he worked on the chemical transport modeling of atmospheric ultrafine particle mass concentrations over Europe. Currently, he is interested in the theoretical modeling of thermal runaway mechanisms in Lithium-ion batteries, with an enduring interest in the complex physical chemistry of electrochemical systems. In conjunction to his research, enjoyable pastimes include exercising, reading novels and listening to classical music whenever possible.
