Sam Degnan-Morgenstern

Sam Degnan-Morgenstern is pursuing his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and joined the Bazant group in January 2023. He received his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Connecticut in 2022. As an undergraduate under the advisement of Dr. Matthew Stuber, Sam researched the use of machine learning based surrogates to accelerate globally optimal cancer therapy design with tumor microenvironment normalization. He is generally interested in scientific computing, machine learning, transport phenomena, and applied mathematics. Sam’s current research focus is on computational hybrid modeling to learn physics from images with the ultimate goal of data-driven assessment and decision making for end-of-life batteries. In his free time, Sam enjoys reading, spending time with friends, and exploring restaurants.
